Friday Five Favourite – Christmas Adverts 2021 – The Runners Up
3 12 2021After last week’s top five, here are the five that were great, but not quite great enough!
Macy’s – “Tiptoe and the Flying Machine”
Yes I know it’s not a UK advert, and that’s why it was relegated to the runners up list, but the reindeer being scared to fly was an adorable story.
Amazon – “Kindness, the Greatest Gift”
A lovely story of someone looking out for their neighbour, and I’m a sucker for anything with a bit of mental-health awareness, even if it *is* Amazon
M&S Food – “Percy Pig comes to life for the first time ever”
I’ll be honest, while this is about Percy Pig coming to life, which was entertaining, on my first watching I was mostly excited about Dawn French
Asda – “Make Christmas Spectacular”
Everywhere is an ice rink!
Morrisons – “Farmer Christmas”
With zoomorphic HGVs

Friday Five Favourite – Christmas Adverts 2021
26 11 2021It’s that time of year!! With Advent Sunday this weekend, here are my top five adverts this Christmas season.
I’ve noticed that some companies take the YouTube videos back down after Christmas, leaving some of my old posts with dead links, and so this year I’ve tried to add a tiny description or comment for each one.
Celebrations – “The Lonely Bounty”
This feels more like an April Fool than a Christmas advert, but if true, is brilliant – and really made me laugh.
Aldi – “Ebanana Scrooge”
Two videos for this one, a teaser and then the full advert. Ever since the introduction of Kevin the Carrot, Aldi’s Christmas adverts have been so so strong, and the character of Ebanana Scrooge and his origin story this year is superb.
Lidl
Strong Back To The Future vibes from this one, I particularly loved that there was the future, and then even further in the future
Coca-Cola – “Chimney”
As someone who lives in a flat, I loved this way of making sure Father Christmas can still get into your home!
Tesco – “This Christmas, Nothing’s Stopping Us”
This just felt uplifting and optimistic after last year!

Friday Five Favourite: Christmas Adverts 2020 – the runners up
11 12 2020Last week you got my top 5, here are the 5 that didn’t quite make it!
John Lewis
I think the only reason this didn’t make the top five is that I feel like someone else did a really similar idea in the last year or two
Lego
Tesco
Coca-Cola
Barbour
I like the message this gives against disposable culture!

Friday Five Favourites – Christmas Adverts 2020
4 12 2020Gosh it was a tough one this year – I guess companies have had plenty of time to come up with decent advertising campaigns! I have managed to narrow it down to my five favourites below, some made me laugh, some made me emotional, it’s a good mix. Enjoy!
Walkers
Deliveroo
Aldi
Two videos because it comes in two parts!
Papa Johns
Well I’d happily back any company wishing to spend their money this way instead!
McDonalds
Inspired by Inside Out maybe?
Then I’ve just got to go through the rest of the list to sift out five runners up for next week!

Friday Five Favourite: Christmas Adverts that didn’t quite make the top 5 – 2017
8 12 2017After last week’s winners, here are those which didn’t quite make the cut
6: Debenhams
A cute, modern day twist on Cinderella, just slightly too much social media for my taste
7: Sky Cinema
8: ASDA
I liked the concept, but felt it could have been executed better
9: Tesco
10: Argos

Friday Five Favourite: Christmas Adverts 2017
1 12 2017It was a tough one this year, my shortlist was about 10, and I’m still not sure I’ve got it right – I don’t know if I should penalise some for being nothing to do with the actual company they’re advertising, or what about companies I’ve never heard of – but after much deliberation, here are the worthy winners! (Results from previous years can be found here)
1: McDonalds
I absolutely loved this, though my colleague and I debated the ending as he wasn’t so impressed. We agreed that maybe the Dad should have taken the cheeseburger for himself if Father Christmas only eats mince pies….
2: Aldi
A great sequel to last year’s entry
3: Barbour
Literally no idea who this company are, but if they’re doing a sequel to The Snowman then that’s easy points right there!
4: Marks & Spencer
Feels like more of an advert for Paddington than M&S, but that doesn’t stop it being lovely.
5: John Lewis
The product placement is obvious, but such a sweet story!

Friday Five Favourite – Christmas Adverts 2016
25 11 2016So here we are, the top five! Last week I gave you those that didn’t quite make it, and now, in a slightly rough and very changeable order, here are my five favourite Christmas adverts this year!
1: Aldi
2: Whiskas Temptations
3: Waitrose
4: John Lewis
Of course this comes with some excellent spoofs, one based on vermin, the other on the presidential election.
5: Lidl

Marks and Spencer
Sainsburys
TK Maxx
McDonalds
Heathrow
