‘You walk at my side’

17 09 2010

Today in prayers, the focus was on Psalm 23, and how when we re-read parts of the Bible, we can get completely new things from them, and how the Psalm talks about a journey, and how the Lord walks alongside us.

“Even when the way goes through
Death Valley,
I’m not afraid
when you walk at my side.
Your trusty shepherd’s crook
makes me feel secure.” – v4

The ‘new’ bit that struck me today was the line “You walk at my side.”
We were asked to fill in the blank for the line: “Even when __________, I’m not afraid when you walk at my side.”
My first thought was “Even when I’m exhausted and worn down.”
It made me think again of the Footprints Poem. How God walks alongside us, but today I was struck at how that includes keeping our pace. If we’re exhausted and plodding slowly, God doesn’t rush on ahead, He stays alongside us. If we’re bubbling up and rushing on, He keeps up!

He walks at our side. 🙂
