Friday five favourite: McFly songs

22 03 2013

Who isn’t a McFly fan in all reality?! They’ve always had catchy, lively, cheerful songs, but I think the break they took to do a load of reality TV etc a couple of years ago also means it now feels like we all know them all and are their buddies! With that in mind, here’s my five favourite McFly songs 🙂

Love is Easy

All About You – (with the added bonus of a Comic Relief comedy video :))

Obviously

The Heart Never Lies

Star Girl – Couldn’t find the proper version of this, but maybe that’s a good thing, because the Chris Moyles version is better 🙂

And of course, we can’t forget this beautiful customised Medley Tom did for his wife on their wedding day!

Friday Five Favourite: Sunday School Songs

1 03 2013

I’m definitely one for sentimentality, so here, unashamedly, is my five favourite Sunday school songs from when I was little!

Jesus loves me this I know

slightly trippy video!

My God is so big

do the Brucey pose!

Jesus’ love is very wonderful

slightly modified words – “oh wonderful love!”

Only a boy named David

123 Jesus Loves Me

starts at 2min

One of the oldest ones I remember I really don’t remember hearing anywhere else ever, it doesn’t seem to be on the internet anywhere either!
My Sunday school teacher, Janet, held up picture cards for us to sing it of the main words because it was when we were too young to read!
Fortunately, my mum having the amazing memory she does, has remembered all the words!:

Lots of faces in a class
Lots of faces in a class,
Lots of classes in a school,
Aren’t we far too many for,
Jesus to look after?
No, for…

Nobody else is just like me,
Nobody else is just like me,
Nobody else is just like me,
I’m important to Jesus.

Different faces, hands and feet,
Clothes untidy, clean or neat,
Aren’t we much too muddling for
Jesus to look after.
No, for…

Chorus

Sleeping, waking eating meals,
Jesus knows just how it feels,
Running, jumping, sitting still,
Jesus knows us always.
Yes, for…

Chorus

This one I only learnt last year so it doesn’t count as one of my Sunday school songs, but it’s amazing!
Jesus is my superhero

Friday five favourite: Sweets!

8 02 2013

So my favourite food is chocolate, no questions asked. But when it comes to other forms of confectionary, I still have a pretty sweet tooth, so thought I’d try to pick my five favourite (non chocolate) sweets!

Dolly Mixture

Fruit Pastilles (blackcurrant and strawberry are the best!)

Jelly Babies (got to be the proper dusted ones, not the mini ones!)

Marshmallows (lighter than air, so surely nothing bad for you in them!)

Ice cream flavoured Chewits (not very common, but that doesn’t make them bad!)

What are your favourite sweets?!

Friday five favourite: Sandwiches

9 11 2012

Coronation chicken

Just beautiful, and with fruit and stuff to make it healthy! Best on granary

Peanut butter and jam

A good mixture of protein and fruit – best with soft 50/50 bread 🙂

Pork & Apple Sauce

Leftover Sunday port with apple sauce in some seeded bread – yummy!

Fuzzy’s Roast Dinner in a Sandwich

Just brilliant, roast meat with all the trimmings including yorkshires, potatoes, veg, gravy, sauce, all in one sandwich!

Corn Beef & Mustard

A nice cheap basic lunch, again a good match for soft 50/50 bread!

Friday five favourite: Smells

2 11 2012

Sadly this isn’t smellinet, but I hope the photos below help trigger some of the smells! – Worrying how most of them are food related?

Melted chocolate

Last week I made my fourth visit to Cadbury World. The first time I went there, the second you stepped out of the car into the car park you could smell the chocolate in the air! There’s also a room where you get given a pot of melted chocolate, and it just smells incredible.

Frying garlic

This might sound like a weird one, but in one of my previous houses I would repeatedly get home from work and call downstairs that dinner smelt amazing, only to find that it was just the garlic frying before anything else went in! Seriously, try it!

Karvol

I know the packaging implies this is for kids but it’s not. This stuff smells incredible. I know for me this is partly just to do with the fact that I had it as a child, but it’s great for when you’re bunged up! you just put little drops on your pillow or a hanky, and you’ve got a great smell hanging around! My housemate was using it recently and the whole house just had this wonderful soothing smell 🙂

Cake in the oven

When you bake a cake, there are many side bonuses, the warm house, licking the bowl of the icing, and of course the smell. When you put a cake in the oven you tend to want to check it early, but I have this rough rule of thumb that it generally doesn’t need checking until you can smell it, that’s when it’s getting towards done (not that I’ve experimented with many cakes, this is mainly about sponge cake!). But what a heart warming smell it is 🙂 It let’s you know the treat is nearly ready!

Fresh Coffee

Now I’m no coffee fan, but this smell is just beautiful! When I was at university I went to a little church who, during the last songs, turned on the coffee machines at the back of the room. Not sure this totally helped me focus as the smell was just lovely! I don’t like the taste of coffee, but I just love the smell 🙂

What are your favourite things to smell? What have I missed?

Friday five favourite: Simpsons episodes

12 10 2012

Got this in just before Friday is finished!

In this theme, I also have to mention the Ned Flander’s Hymnal from Greenbelt – brilliant! Essentially well known songs but Christianised!

But here’s links to my top 5 episodes, as always, not in order! With a few clips to make you smile 🙂 Apologies for the awful quality, it seems there isn’t much decent Simpsons stuff on YouTube!

Each title is also a link to the Wikipedia article on the episode for further blurb 🙂

The Father The Son and The Holy Guest Star
This one seems to be a bit too new to find any clip of at all!

Lisa’s First Word

The Regina Monologues aka The Simpsons go to the UK!
This wasn’t the clip I wanted, I was trying to find Tony Blair greeting them at the airport with a jet pack, but it doesn’t seem to be on the internet 😦

[EDIT: Others I forgot are posted in the comments!!]

Friday Five Favourite: Textbooks I no longer need!

24 08 2012

I’m spending the week at my parents and among the many things I’m clearing out are some old textbooks. Some are a bit more specialist than others, especially those at university level, and so may not be that popular with Oxfam, and also some might even be worth more than giving away free, so I thought I’d put my current top five on here incase anyone is starting a course where they need them, or would just be interested!

Calculus by Anton, 8th Edition

Comparitive Programming Languages

GCSE Science practice papers – whsmith (published 2000)

BBC Bitesize GCSE Geography (published 1998)

CGP GCSE Geography revision guide (published 1998)

Friday five favourite: possibilites for lighting the Olympic Torch tonight

27 07 2012

So tonight is the official kick off of the London 2012 Olympic Games! (But how great is it that the first game of the games we won!

And of course, one of the biggest talking points is who will light the torch in the opening ceremony. The BBC have their own thoughts on it, and to be honest mine overlap a fair amount, but here they are!

  1. Sir Steve Redgrave
Definitely my top choice, this rower has won 5 Golds in 5 separate Olympics over 20 years for our country – very worthy of the honour!

  2. HRH Prince William
I know he’s not a sportsman, but he was involved in the Olympic bid to bring the games to London, and as a fan of a royals, it’d be great to see him do it!

  3. Roger Bannister
The first man to run a 4 minute mile!

  4. Her Majesty The Queen
So she’s not a sportswoman, and wasn’t involved in the bid directly. But this woman is incredible. In her 60th year on the throne, what greater way to top it off than give her this honour?!

  5. David Beckham
I never used to be a fan of Beckham, but with all the work he does for Sport Relief he’s definitely growing on me! It was a shame he was left out of the Team GB Football team, so yea he’s not an Olympian, but again he was involved in the bid to bring the games here, so maybe lighting the torch would make up for being omitted from the squad!

P.S. This is my 100th blog post! Happy hundreth!

Who do you think should like the flame tonight?

Friday five favourite: Animals

20 07 2012

Duck
I have a bit of a thing for ducks, I think they’re really beautiful 🙂 Oh, and my grandma used to call me duck 🙂

golden-retriever

Cat
And this is Kea, my friend Emily’s cat who I used to look after when they went on holiday – she still loves it when I come over because she thinks I’m going to feed her 🙂 she’s wonderful!

What are your favourite animals?
